Children of Janos Veres and Maria Visnyinsky/Visnyiczky - Part One

Joseph Veres was born in Hungary in 1871 and married Catherine/Katalin Toth in about 1895. He immigrated to the United States aboard the ship Georgia in 1896. He was followed by his wife and one-year-old daughter Elizabeth about one year later. They all may have gone briefly to Johnstown, PA, but were living in Toledo, OH, by 1898.

Daughter Mary was born in Toledo in 1898, and son Andrew in 1900. Joseph worked there as a molder.

On July 4, 1906, Joseph died of heart failure. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery.

Anna Veres was born around 1878. She left her home in Janok, Hungary, and traveled on the S.S. Werkendam -- arriving in June, 1898. She resided in the home of her brother Joseph for about a year. Her whereabouts are unknown after that.



Maria Veres (the third daughter with this name) was born on August 27, 1876, in Janok, Hungary. She immigrated to the U.S. some time in the late 1890s and lived in the home of her brother Joseph. She married John Borosky around 1899.

Their daughter Teresa was born in Detroit in April of 1900 and she died at about age 9. They also had a daughter named Margit who was born in Toledo in September 1901, who died as an infant. Other children that were also born in Toledo include: John (1903), Alexander (1905), Edward/Imre (1907), and Jolan "Lola" (1910).

Some time after John Sr. died in March of 1917, Maria and the children moved to Johnstown, PA, where she married Albert Urban. She died there on December 27, 1948, of Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Urinary Bladder and is buried in St. Therese Cemetery.

Mihaly Veres was born in Janok, Hungary, on July 4, 1874.  He and his wife, Barbara Grebely, had children Stephen (1903), Joseph (1909), Maria (1905), and Frank Joseph -- who was born on July 26, 1900.
In March of 1901, Mihaly made his first trip to the United States aboard the S.S. Barbarossa.  He went to the home of his brother Joseph in Toledo, Ohio, staying in the U.S. for a few years.  He again left Hungary in April of 1914 on the S.S. Nieuw Amsterdam.  This time Mihaly's destination was the home of his brother Frank, also in Toledo.  Again, he remained there for a few years before returning to Janok, where he died on March 18, 1953.
His son Frank Joseph Veres also immigrated to the United States.  On November 6, 1921, he arrived at the port of Detroit on the Canadian-Pacific Railway and then made his way to Toledo where he lived with his uncle Frank Veres.  He married Rose Strini, was very active in the Toledo community, raised a family, and died from a lung tumor and congestive heart failure on April 30, 1962.  He is buried in Calvary Cemetery.

Ferenk (Frank Joseph) Veres was born in Janok, Hungary, on October 25, 1879.  He immigrated to Toledo, OH, in 1902 as "Stefan Kondas" aboard the August Victoria, and lived in the home of his brother Joseph.
In March of 1908 he married Barbara Toth.  In December of that year their son Frank Andrew was born.  Their other children were Joseph (born in 1910), Anna (1912), Andrew (1916), and Barbara (1917).
Frank's occupation was a moulder.  He retired in 1954.  On August 17, 1958, he died from a cerebral hemorrhage due to high blood pressure.  He is buried in Calvary Cemetery.

Emery Veres was born in Janok, Hungary, (now Janik, Slovakia) on May 2, 1882.  He came to the United States in about 1902 and married Maria Pal (Mary Paul) in Detroit in 1904. In 1905 they were living in Toledo, OH.
They had a very large family.  Daughter Elizabeth was born in New Derry, PA, in 1906.  Others born in the Heilwood/Johnstown area where Emery worked as a coal miner were:  Emery (1907), Steve (1909), Helen (1912), Julia (1914), John (1915), Joe (1917), and Frank (1919).
In 1920, the family moved to Lynch, KY, where Emery also worked in the coal mines.  Daughter Margaret was the first to be born there in 1921 followed by:  Emma (1922), Rosie (1924), and Andrew (1926).
Emery died in Lynch on March 5, 1938 following an appendectomy.  Mary died there on September 4 of the same year.  The cause of her death was 'tuberculosis of the second cervical vertebre' and 'bronchi pneumonia'.  They are both buried in the Lynch Coal Camp Westlawn Cemetery.

Janos Veres and Maria Visnyinsky had some children that died at a very young age.
Maria (the first one with this name) died in 1872, at only a few months old. 
A second daughter named Maria was born and also died in Csecs, Hungary, in 1873.
Imre died at at 2 1/2 years old on September 2, 1880.
Erzsebet, who was born in Janok, Hungary, on December 30, 1884, died on May 30, 1888.
